| Executive summary of key ideas, context, methods etc.: |
The main objective is to increase the research capacity in mathematics education in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Uganda. This will be done by training 8 students for a PhD in mathematics education at the University of the Western Cape. It is further an objective of the programme to build a network for mathematics education in the same area. The requirement for being recruited to the programme, besides the academic qualifications, are as follows: - the students should be drawn primarily from the black community - the students should be engaged in educational work at tertiary level and governmental departments Implementation The project in mathematics education is a sandwich programme. The students meets for a two-week seminar twice a year, located in one of the participating countries. The seminars will serve the purpose of supervising aspects that are difficult to do by the internet. Coordinator: Oyvind Mikalsen, IPP, UiB Cyril Julie, UWC, RSA
